MobilePass Workshop WP4 in Vienna

On March 10th  and March 11th the second technical meeting on fingerprint capturing device development has been hold at AIT in Vienna. Fraunhofer IOSB and AIT met for detailed elaboration & design of fingerprint capturing hardware prototyping. The focus of the workshop was to investigate possible designs for active lighting and camera control for robust and efficient fingerprint capturing.

Based on preliminary work carried out by AIT on electronics for active lighting control, and finger detection and quality estimation software provided by Fraunhofer IOSB it was possible to work step by step towards a suitable and effective fingerprint capturing concept with mobile image sensors (see pictures).

The two days can be summarized as highly successful work. Several challenging aspects on active light design, focus finder (distance to finger measurement), and camera control and parametrisation have been discussed, and first solutions have been elaborated.

The first capturing device prototype, including a first preliminary fingerprint capturing and verification software is planned to be presented during consortium meeting mid of May 2015.
